Can one crazy fundamentalist take out San Francisco’s hedonists?

And can a transman spy, a society dominatrix and lesbian SFPD sergeant stop him?

Charley McElroy is a handsome, well-heeled travel writer and CIA operative and he’s having a midlife crisis. Not only did he get suspended by the Agency after forgetting to pay his taxes.

Only days earlier, yet another one of his marriage proposals was spurned.

Then Charley befriends Electra, a high-powered Manhattan socialite-turned-dominatrix rebuilding her life in San Francisco.

And he meets Frankie, a disgruntled lesbian police sergeant who has been demoted by the SFPD for being a whistle blower.

Together they uncover a Christian fundamentalist’s lethal plot to destroy the ‘hedonists’ of San Francisco. Yet, neither the SFPD nor the CIA will take the threat seriously due to their outsider status.

Can they get anyone to listen to them? Or are they on their own?

Find out in this fast, funny thriller packed with San Francisco’s spectacular scenery and inimitable, quirky characters.

I didn't realize how much I needed some adventure in my life until I started this book. The characters are so well-developed, and the scenery so deliciously detailed with this book actually made me want to run away to San Francisco for a weekend. Immediately. (Though I lived in the Bay Area for quite some time, some of the landmarks described in this book sound too fantastic to miss. And I certainly never found them on my own.)

I was nervous that this book would be a bit too forward for me, taking me to places I wasn't necessarily prepared to go. However, I found the characters to be vulnerable, endearing, real, and insecure -- just enough to make me feel comfortable. I dare to hope that the tales of Electra and Charley will continue on. They seem like a fine crime-fighting pair.

So this is just an amazing piece of writing, so we'll done, an incredible job. I really love it! I've been reading a collection of O'Hara short stories, his dialogue and pithy descriptions read just like this, it's so cool, the story, characters, settings, most of all the fantastic dialog, just terrific!

Such a fantastic read not to be missed!!

Best of luck for future works can't wait for what comes next!

A fun, breezy tale of good and evil - replete with characters you will enjoy getting to know, love and/or hate. As a local to San Francisco I really appreciated the authentic touches, locales and venues being described so well and invitingly. Could be a travelogue in the style of Casino Royale!
The story, about a trans man spy, a society gal turned Dom, and a religious zealot will hook you until the end, and you will wish it kept going. Just enough twists to enjoy and keep it from being obvious too. Quite a fun way to spend a few hours and learn about the wilder side of the City.
A fun read. The characters were well developed and engaging. The mystery was plausible. The story was a good one.
And the adventure of it all was a strong hook.
I will definitely be looking for the next book.
That said, I would also note that the pacing could been more aggressive - I wanted to story to hook me faster. But I fell in love with the complicated and compromised Charlie and the disgraced Electra.
These talented authors need to bring us the next chronicle of Charlie and Electra quickly -- and I pray that if the next adventure is in France, Frankie finds a way to join in the fun.
I hope I'll be reading this series for many years to come.
It's hard to know how to rate this book. It is not great literature. But it's a long way from a formulaic romance. The main characters are interesting people, not cardboard cutouts. What is even more interesting is that the protagonists and antagonist are going through exactly the same struggles, heading toward their destinies with a combination of hope and doubt. Normally I am completely over having Christians as psycho-villains. It's a cheap shot, I think. But in this case, it works because underneath everything, the characters are really struggling with faith, especially faith in themselves. I don't want to make the book sound somber. It is light hearted, fast moving and frequently funny. I will read the sequel. And PS I wish Randy his happy ending. Somehow.
Transformed San Francisco (Quirky Transgender Spy Novels Book 1) surprised me with memorable characters, a nail-biting plot and really vivid descriptions of San Francisco, that even though I have never been there painted a really lifelike image of the foggy city. The novel is actually truly groundbreaking to have a transman as the main protagonist, addressing the underlying issues without really being gimmicky, and the main antagonist's plot to destroy San Francisco, however unlikely, seems still relevant in today's world. I recommend this book not just to trans/LGBT/queer readers, but to anyone seeking a brisk, but rewarding read. I look forward to the probable sequels!
Suzanne Falter's "Transformed San Francisco" indeed lives up to its category as a "Quirky Queer Spy Novel". The three protagonists Charley, CIA agent and transman who hasn't quite made the complete transition; Electra, the Society Dom trying to re-invent herself; and Frankie, a lesbian SFPD sergeant who is hoping to muck out departmental corruption - represent an enticing triangle. The antagonist, Randy, the evangelical wannabe terrorist who hopes to forward his "sainted" daddy's "Kill the Fags" vendetta, is hopelessly inept but no less sinister for all that.

I found a few places in the narrative where the time-line didn't quite fit, but overall the story was engaging enough that it inspired me to add the second novel in the series. Although indeed "quirky", this narrative is in no way disgusting or depressing. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
This was billed as quirky and fun, but also as breaking new ground by approaching the subject of gender in a different way. It lived up to the description as far as I'm concerned. I really enjoyed this book and will follow through on the next iterations. As seems to happen in a lot of digital books -maybe all books-there were more errors toward the end. Some typo, more irritatingly little things that didn't flow, or that contradicted something just a little earlier. For example, the Situation something department at the police station became the Station something department just a few pages further. And the timing of the last major scene where the suspense was building was all off. The whole ending seemed a bit rushed. There must be a push to get finished and start the next piece of the series. While it takes away from the experience, I still liked the book. The characters captured my interest, and I really liked the descriptions of their inner feelings. The plot was good, too. Looking forward to the next developments.
